Tea Gardner was born on the day of August 18th to two unknown parents. During her early childhood, Tea first met Yugi Muto in elementary school however what age they were and what grade they were in was unknown, and is never mentioned at all in the series. He gave her a handheld game, in which she got engrossed in. However after spending a lot of time playing it, she did not get any better, and she had angrily smashed the game completely out of frustration. Yugi laughed at the ordeal upon seeing this, and had brought her an easier game to play the next day.

Tea is always portrayed as the friendliest girl you can imagine and more often than not the girl next door. She is also often portrayed as Yami's love interest, Revolutionshipping or Yugi's PeachShipping depending on the author. Some writers prefer to demonize her, something that happens in many fandoms to the female love interests who appear to stand in the way of the most commonly shipped homosexual pairings. When not existing solely for conflict, she is often portrayed as the voice of reason, curbing Joey and Tristan's antics, and being there for Yugi emotionally.
