In Cameroon same-sex sexual activity is punishable by up to five years imprisonment. They used their personal networks to engage their peers and spread the word about the services on offer and within months interest in both educational and clinical services rapidly increased. In Cameroon, sex workers are often social outcasts. The same women who are sought-after at night are pointed at during the day, at times by the same men who visited them during the night. They often know little about the health risks and do not have the power to negotiate with their clients over issues such as condom use.
